This course meets the general skills and knowledge outlined in NDIS Practice Standards 2021 and NDIS Skills Descriptor 2022

Learning Objectives

To enable workers to deliver subcutaneous injection

Course Format

3 hour face-to-face workshop with knowledge and skills assessment

Course Structure

  • Context: NDIS Skill Descriptors and Practice Standards
  • Roles of key health practitioners, carers and participants in assessment and development of the plan for their subcutaneous injections, and regular timely review
  • Layers of the integumentary system/ the skin
  • Safe subcutaneous injecting procedures using pens and pre-prepared syringes
    • Confirming prescription, client details and rationales
    • Infection Prevention and Control procedures
    • Safe needle disposal
    • Injection site location and rotation
    • Monitoring for adverse reactions
    • Risks, incidents and emergencies
  • Practical demonstrations and hands on practice in a simulated environment
  • When and how to involve or get advice/ request review from the appropriate health practitioner
  • Documentation, consent, privacy, confidentiality and incident reporting
